"So where im from you have to Run just to stand still"
That is a very interesting turn of phrase.
Americans love to vacation in Barbados...I wonder how many know how difficult it is to get ahead there?

Very difficult if you aren't from a rich background, i mean its a very beautiful island, but to sum it up for you, barbados is one of those places where it depends on who you know that can succeed in life, for example i can have all the degrees for a job, but you on the oother hand droped out but you know the boss, you get the job over me, and thats how almost all the jobs here are given

That is most unfortunate. Do you have any plans to try to come to the states on a work visa perhaps?

yes of course! but its hard cause i dont know anyone in the states and i would need to save alot of money to move there aswell It is different I think from when my 4 grandparents came to the states from Naples, Italy. They did not speak English...had no money to speak of. Yet they went thru Ellis Island like so many immigrants of the time. My paternal grandparents settled in Providence, Rhode Island. My maternal, in Bristol, Rhode, Island. They all learned English...earned their citizenship...established family businesses...had children(3 & 6 respectively)...purchased their own homes. Only my father went onto to college and graduate school but most of the males still did well financially. Some of my aunts worked...some did not...each family made their own decision. Now of course immigrants have a much harder time coming and staying here. I mean, your country is not on that proposed travel ban but you need an employee sponsor or to be on a student visa. It is not that Italians and the Irish did not face some very ugly discrimination, so often liven in their own neighborhoods, and hired their own. But you have to be here to even do that. I have all the sympathy and empathy in the world for you. I would not have the life I have but for my grandparents and the way it was back then. On the other hand, any number of Americans love Italy. They also have a thriving middle class there...people without advance education. People who work for employers who treat them very very well. Almost zero turnover. Great benefits. A very different culture. The states has a disappearing middle class. You are either rich or you are poor...we are stiltedly heading that way. Okay...enough my mini-rant.

Though there was alot of discrimination back then it was still alot easy for people back in the day, and there is still discrimination going on currently, I thought that maybe i can find a Company over there to help out with the procces working under them and student visa, that is $$$$$$$$$$, US is a challenge but i think Canada might be more possible for me, i still need to do alot of research on it and i need to make something happen

I would never say it will not be hard...but it was very scary and hard for my grandparents to come to the states with no money, not knowing any English, no education across a very large ocean and leave everything and everybody they knew. So, you have a dream. That is good. At some point you have to do everything you can to make that dream come true...esp. before something happens that might make it even harder for you to leave. Something(s) you may not foresee right now. You know the saying...'Men make plans, God laughs'. I have come to believe that many times over the years.

Ohhwuu, i never heard that saying before, Interesting The caribbean has alot of sayings that you might be very interested of hearing I would be interested in them. We have laid down both Aussie Slang here as well as British Slang. Perhaps a good place to do would be down in the Location Section. Both Gabbi and naiwen are from Asia. teddybear is from Holland. Just so you know you are not the only member who does not have a separate category from them. But I am talking about the Section that has spots for the US. Uk, Canada and Australia&NZ. There is also a spot called "Other" My suggestion is that would be the place to put those phrases. It is I believe a modern "twist" on the Biblical verse found in Psalm 33:10: "The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples." (In other words, men may plan but God has plans of His own) Also: There is an old Yiddish proverb, "Men tracht und Gott lacht." Roughly, this translates as "Men plan and god laughs.
