kirsty was a much loved member of this forum. Kirsty was here for 4 years from March 2016 through to March 2020. Sadly, Kirsty took her own life in March of this year and we have given Kirsty a category and chat section on FJ with her family's permission. Kirsty, a much loved member of FJ - gone but not forgotten.

I think it's a good idea, hopefully the info there is all up to date.

Sure, it wouldn't hurt
Personally though, I've been there, and those helplines just made me feel worse. I don't like to call, so I tried to look for a chat, but got turned down because (at the time) there were only chats for US/UK people. Even when I had the chance to talk about my feelings, it was just very emotionally tiring to go through everything all over again, plus sometimes when you're depressed, you just can't really explain why - and people asking you "why are you depressed? there must be something that happened?" just made me feel invalidated and like I was just being weak compared to the people that had something traumatic happen. I know those helplines are there to help but overall it just made me feel more ostracised.
But who knows, that was a few years ago now so maybe things have improved. Or maybe I'm just weird Maybe it works for other people

I would suggest using the SuicideWatch subreddit for a way to chat regardless of region, since it is tailored to helping people just vent themselves in an environment designed to deal with it to the best of the ability of those managing it. I'm sure there are other websites too that provide chat, but I don't know what they are nor want to suggest sites I've only laid eyes on for five minutes with no clue how they perform. Depression is a far reaching subject that is hard to provide a cure all or one size fits all approach, so I understand if anyone doesn't find a particular approach helpful to them. I'm just hoping that anything I know of can at least help someone or at the minimum demonstrate that people are willing to try and offer ideas to help without being asked first, since I know many people don't want to take the first step through fear of bothering people. Maybe it won't seem such a bother if the initiative is shown from the side that would usually be seen as the one that would be bothered about requests for help.

Yup definitely I've just become super wary of "help" services that could possibly exacerbate the problem. Online communities are the best help I think I'm sure most of us will also add that our PMs are open to anyone who wants to talk.

I haven't been here for ages so I had no idea. How sad.

It has been almost two years since I was last on Funjoint, and I can remember kirsty from when I originally participated on the forum, so hearing of this news has hit me hard. My condolences go out to her family and friends.
