I find it amusing that people think you can't learn anything from entertainment, particularly video games. I've sure learned a couple of things from video games. And I don't mean, like, educational things like in history, but more like life lessons, stress management, other behavioral things. Here's a couple of examples:
Wolfenstein (The Old Blood [2015] & The New Order [2014])
These are a couple of my favorite video games and through them I learned an interesting stress management technique. Inhale. Count to 4. Exhale. Count to 4. Repeat. It has been proven that performing controlled breathing exercises can calm a person down if they start to hyperventilate or are stressed out or anxious. Excellent tip!
The Skystone (1992, by Jack Whyte)
While these books are just fantastic to read anyway, telling quite an amazing story, I learned another very important lesson from reading them. The main character, Publius Varrus, does this when posed with difficult questions. He'll literally just sit there and mull it all over in his head and really think it all through before actually answering. He analyzes information, collects his thoughts, and then puts the words together in his head before he actually says them. That's a very good idea, and I wish more people did it!
What kinds of 'lessons' have you learned from your favorite forms of entertainment?
